William Wayne “Cotton” Frazier, Sr. March 5, 1939 – March 11, 2012
Frazier- Mr. William Wayne Frazier, Sr. age 73 devoted husband and loving father and loyal friend to many, passed away on Sunday March 11, 2012 after an extended illness. Mr. Frazier was a native of Evergreen, Alabama and lived in Brewton, AL for the last 36 years where he retired from the NFL and worked with his wife Wilodyne Williams Frazier, in her local State Farm business.
Wayne is best known for his Football talent, which began in the sandlot pickup games in Evergreen, Alabama, where he and his older brothers would play. He was All SEC Center and Linebacker playing for the Auburn Tigers under coach Ralph “Shug” Jordan (58-61). Wayne “Cotton” Frazier went on to play professional football for the San Diego Chargers (1962), Houston Oilers (1965), Buffalo Bills (1966) and later for the Kansas City Chiefs (1966 – 1967). On January 15, 1967, the Kansas City Chiefs played the Green Bay Packers in what would later become known as the Super Bowl I. Frazier, as the starting center for the visiting Kansas City Chiefs has the distinction of being the first football player introduced in the history of the Super Bowl.
A man who came from humble beginnings and touched lives in the form of coaching young men and ladies in College or High School athletics . In later life, his greatest joy came from his involvement in church, mission trips and philanthropic activities.
Survivors: Wife- Wilodyne Williams Frazier of Brewton, Alabama (3) Sons- William Wayne (Beverly Jones) Frazier, Jr. of Enterprise, AL Sean McNeal of Charleston, Illinois Will McNeal (Keela) of Brewton, Alabama (1) Daughter- Tara Frazier (Jamie) Pribula of Vero Beach, Florida (2) Brothers- Shirley Frazier (Beth) Taylor Texas Jimmy (Fran) Frazier San Diego, California (2) Sisters- Ramona Wilson and Andalusia, Albama Naomi Kelly (Jerry), Brewton, Alabama Grandchildren- William Wayne Frazier III, Mary Kathryn Frazier,Ellis Benjamin Frazier, Lila, J.J Numerous nieces and nephews ***Preceded in death by: Parents- Ellis and Cora Lee Frazier Son- Troy Michael Frazier
Visitation will be held Tuesday night March 13, 2012 from 5:30 until 8:00 P.M. at the Brewton First United Methodist Church Brewton, Alabama.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Wednesday afternoon March 14, 2012 at 1:00 P.M. at the Brewton First United Methodist Church with Dr. Ed Glaize and Speaker Bert Cook officiating. Interment will in Brownville Memorial Gardens Evergreen, Alabama with WILLIAMS MEMORIAL CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME OF BREWTON, ALABAMA DIRECTING.
